The Annual inter house Sports Meet of Ilma International Girls’ School was recently held at the Havelocks Sport Grounds, with the participation of students from the Senior and Primary School respectively.

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya, Mrs. Anoma Ratnayake, who also serves as Assistant Secretary of the National Olympic Committee, graced the Senior Meet as Chief Guest. Meanwhile, Mrs. Fareeda Wahab, the immediate past Principal of the School and
Ms. Shehana Ibrahim, a distinguished member of the School’s OGA, presided at the Junior Meet. An array of events, including track, field and group events, were lined up for every grade and age category.

The Championship Awards recognized the following athletes for their outstanding sportsmanship:
Under 9 – Reena M. Nazar (Yaquooth)
Under 11 – Maryam Khan (Cithreen)
Under 13 – Zainab Ali (Marjan) and Izzet Manal Riyal (Cithreen)
Under 15 – Hifza Hameem (Lulu)
Under 17 – Tasnim Drahiem (Cithreen)
Under 20 – Maariyah Rizwan (Yaquooth)

The closing ceremony witnessed a Drill Display by the students of all four Houses. This was followed by the respective Games Captains of the Senior and Junior Schools leading their Board of Prefects, at the forefront of the March Squads of all four houses.

The Senior Meet culminated in Marjan House blowing the competition away, by cinching the title of Overall Champions, with Cithreen House securing second place. Lulu House emerged victorious at the Junior Meet, closely followed by Cithreen House.

Indeed, this Sports Meet exemplified Lorii Myer’s quote – “True sportsmanship is excellence in motion.”
