1988:
- On the 18th of January Ilma International Girls’ School was established at No. 33, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7 with 18 staff members, 140 students and 11 classes ranging from Pre Grade to Grade 8.
1989:
- On the 12th of January Ilma Educational Trust was created, with three trustees, inter alia, to manage and operate the School.
- Ilma Educational Trust was incorporated, on 11th of May, as Ilma Educational Foundation (IEF), a Company limited by guarantee with nine members.
1990:
- Ilma was ready to expand as the number of admissions were more than that which the buildings at Wijerama Mawatha could handle.
- On the 23rd of May Ilma purchased 130 perches of land situated along the Thalakotuwa Gardens in Colombo 05 for the construction of a purpose built School Building.
1991:
- A two story building, consisting of 2600 square meters, was constructed at the land in Thalakotuwa Gardens and Ilma moved into its own premises.
- Ilma sent forward its first batch of 7 students to sit the Edexcel Ordinary Level Exam.
1992:
- Mrs. Rasheedha Mohideen gave her undivided attention and dedicated service to the School, leading it to progress rapidly within a short period of time, thus the first Prize Giving was held.
- On the 19th of March another plot of land, nearly 12 perches in extent, adjoining the School was purchased for the expansion of Ilma. The land on which Ilma stands is now nearly 142 perches in extent.
1993:
- On the 5th of April, a new wing, consisting of 12 classes for Grade 2, was opened by Madam Azwer, wife of then Minister of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs.
1994:
- Ilma’s first Edexcel Advanced Level Exam Batch sat for the examination.
1998:
- Ilma completed 10 years! The student strength had increased to 1500 students, with 112 teachers and 63 classes.
- Ilma International Old Girls’ Association (IIOGA) was formed – Founder Mrs. Nandani Liyanage.
1999:
- 1st School Magazine was published for the academic year 1997 – 1998
2000:
- The 1st batch of Pre-Grade Students of the School sat for their Advanced Level Examination and left school.
2001:
- The OGA presented the school with an Air Conditioned Hall, making the school eligible to be a London Examination Centre.
- Commencement of the Local Advanced Level Batch.
2002:
- 4th block was built, Primary Students were separated as Junior School.
2003:
- Practical Exams of the London Advanced Level Examination were held in the School’s Chemistry & Physics Lab.
- Two prize days were held for Juniors & Seniors separately.
2006:
- Senior Library extended to three rooms.
- A new block was built for Grade 9 and Grade 10.
2010:
- Ilma emerged Netball Champions in the Netball Tournament organized by Hejaaz International School.
2011:
- Ilma emerged Netball Champions in the Inter International Netball Tournament organized by Ilma.
2012:
- Ilma participated in the Inter International Schools Debate and emerged victorious.
2013:
- Celebrated 25 years of excellence in education.
- Launch of the school website
- Ilma International Girls’ School’s first ever carnival organized by the OGA
