Principal’s Address

I am both privileged & delighted to send this message to the official website of the school. Ilma has grown in leaps and bounds from it’s inception and has proved her stance as a leading International girls’ school in Sri Lanka, providing a quarter century of excellence in nurturing young girls to excel academically in many spheres. We provide a comprehensive foundation where religious and cultural values are instilled from an early age. Being one of the pioneer international schools in the country Ilma owes its success to the Founder Principal Mrs. Rasheeda Mohideen for being the visionary behind this unique institution. The School offers the British Cambridge Curriculum and National Curriculum for students from Reception to Advanced Level in the English medium and could choose science, commerce or the arts stream for higher studies.

Over the years Ilma has produced thousands of well accomplished alumni, many of them professionals in fields ranging from medicine and the sciences, to business, IT, education and much more & has grown in size and stature, consisting of a student population of 1518 in the post primary and 109 members of staff. The students in the national stream have shown steady progress over the years, with a proven track record of achieving excellent results at the ordinary & Advanced level exams at both the Cambridge & National Examinations.

It is worthy of mention that Ilma has been blessed with capable successors throughout the years to carry on the task of guiding Ilma in the same vein in order that Ilma maintains the same lofty standards set by the founders. It would not suffice to mention their hard work and perseverance to bring up the standard of the school and maintain the highest levels of education for girls enabling Ilma gain a reputation that it is proud of today.

Today Ilma stands as a symbol of genuine interest, effort and dedication of it’s staff and board of management who have stood as pillars of strength behind the success of the institution.

It is envisioned that Ilma will reach greater heights by branching out and expanding to reach new horizons once the expansion project of the new school currently underway in Dehiwala is complete in order to build a better, possibly a state of the art school, for a well-rounded education for the generations to follow providing an even more excellent standard of education for the 21^st century Insha Allah.
