The reason Ilma is a remarkable institution at the forefront of education for Muslim girls, is because of not just the effort of one, but the striving of many. Ms. Fareeda Wahab was one such iconic individual. Thus, it was with much sadness that the entire school bid goodbye to the Principal who served for more than two years, on the 19th of June 2019.
The occasion saw the combined efforts of the Senior and Intermediate sections of Ilma International Girls’ School in effectively executing the event. With twinkling fairy lights, blazing candles and poignant messages that decked the elegant hall, the decor certainly did justice to the theme – Gone But Never Forgotten.Maryam Mubeen, The Senior Head Girl of the Year 2018/2019, delivered a heartfelt speech in which she extended her gratitude to the outgoing Principal on behalf of the entire school. The A/S batch then lit up the hall with their melodious voices, a tribute to Madam Wahab’s undeniably valuable services. A felicitation speech was then delivered by Aaysha Sufran.
This was followed by the recitation of a group poem, a rhythmic homage to the different facets of Madam Wahab’s personality, along with another moving poem. The latter was recited by Najaha Nauf who added humour to the otherwise sombre occasion, with many an amusing memory of her interactions with Madam Wahab. The event then concluded with a heart-warming speech delivered by Madam Wahab herself, which received a standing ovation.
