Ilma International Girl’s School strives to inculcate a holistic understanding of the world at large in its student body. School assemblies held fortnightly are designed in a manner that keeps such values in mind. One such program was held on the 15th of July 2019, when Mr. Arshad Akbar, a CEO, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on the topic Peace and Harmony. His speech focused on the importance of language, as well as on its pivotal role in conflict prevention. The approach was centered on three key principles:
- Know the language of your country
- Know the language of 2025 (i.e., the future)
- Have a positive ‘I can do’ mindset
It must be surmised thus that Mr. Akbar’s opinion was that using any language in the right way would help bring about peace within the wider community.
His message seemed to hit home, as did the engaging way he interacted with the Senior students of IIGS. Thus, it came as no surprise when Mr. Akbar ended his talk to rapturous praise.
Attired in the national costume of our Motherland, he proclaimed,
“We may be of different religions, but we are all Sri Lankans, and we must wear our identity with pride.”
