Inter-House Sports meet 2017/2018
Another major event which made this year colourful was the Annual Inter house sports meet followed by the Inter House Netball and Basketball matches. The sports meet was held on the 28th of September 2017 at Havelocks Sports club. Madam M.K.A Anoma Ratnayake, a Provincial National course director graced the occasion as the chief guest. The enthusiasm of the cheering squads and teamwork of the four Houses were the highlights of this special event. The best drill display was awarded to Marjan House while the best marching squad title was awarded to Lulu House. The championship trophies were presented to Haifa hamim for the under 13 category, Safiyyah Fazal for the under 15 category, Maariyah Rizwan for the under 17 category and Khadeeja Thahir for the under 20 category. The event came to a spectacular finish with the overall champions being awarded to Cithreen House while Lulu House emerged runners up.
The Inter House Netball and Basketball competitions were held on the 12th of August 2017 at the School grounds. The tournament witnessed a lot of close contests with each team jumping and leaping to score goals. It was closely fought competition wherein each House put in their best foot forward. Lay-ups and steppings were met with intense blocks as the players sweated in on the court.
Youth Leadership Development Camp – 2017
On the 10th of December 2017, Ilma’s first ever Leadership Development Camp was held for the Board of Prefects and Trainee Prefects. Organised by the Prefects holding the key posts, under the guidance of the Prefects’ Committee, it was truly an event for the Prefects, by the Prefects. Ms Qaanita Razeek, past Head Girl, delivered a stellar speech for the girls. There was a range of challenges, like the Adventure Trail, Lava Challenge, Marble Ramps, thrown at the participants by the top 4 to test and instill leadership values and skills.
Leadership Development Training Program organised by EDEX (an initiative of Royal College Old Boys Union)
A Leadership Development Program for Prefects and Games Captains organised by the EDEX Council was held at the Royal College Skills Centre on the 25th of August. Head Prefect (Ramlah Kamal), Deputy Head Prefect (Shaznine Ramiz) and Games Captain (Salma Naleem) attended the program accompanied by one of the teachers in-charge of the Prefects, Ms. Farhana Hamza.
The Year 9 Team Building Camp
The year 9 “Team Building Camp”, for the Academic Year 2017/2018 was held on the 1st of March 2018, at the school premises. 202 students of the Year 9 Classes participated in this educational and recreational event which was instrumental in bringing out the abilities of the students in the fields of cookery, games, education, mindfulness and aesthetic talents. The motto of this year’s Team building camp was “Unity it starts with you”. The students had a once-in-lifetime experience in the premises which is well accustomed to them. Participating in this event helped them to build their confidence and to appreciate the value of unity.
Pre Hajj Fair
The second annual Pre Hajj Fair, organized by the Senior Staff, was held on the 11th of August 2018. Various stalls including food, clothing, games, plants and books were put up by school students and outsiders. This fun filled event was a great success.
Graduation 2018
The final farewell of the Class of 2018 took place nostalgically right where the journey all started, the School Hall. Themed ‘Adventure is out there’, the graduation ceremony took place on the 15th of September,2018. A total of 125 outgoing students donned their cloaks and received plaques in acknowledgment of the great years spent at Ilma. Country Manager of CIMA, Ms. Zahara Ansary graced the event with her presence.
Netball Tournament 2017/2018
This academic year has indeed been a magnificent one, Alhamdulliah. The 8th Annual Inter International Netball Tournament was held on the 28th of January 2018 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.madam Trixie Jayantha Nanayakara graced the occasion as the chief guest. Thirteen schools participated at the Netball Tournament,namely : Alethea International School, Asian International School, Colombo International School (Colombo), Colombo International School (Kandy), Gateway College (Kandy), Gateway College (Rajagiriya), Ilma International Girls’ School, Lyceum International School (Panadura), Lyceum International School (Wattala), OKI International School, Regent International College, Royal Institute and The British School in Colombo. From rising dust of the team work and sportsmanship displayed by all, Gateway College (Colombo) emerged champions while Ilma International Girls’ School led by Captain Sadhaf Jawahir, was pronounced 1st runners up and Gateway College (Kandy) as 2nd runners up. Awards were presented to those who showed exceptional talents and added colour to the tournament, Sajali Hettiarachchi of Gateway College (Colombo) was titled Best Defensive player while Khadeeja Thahir of Ilma International Girls’ School was named Best Center Court Player. Yichelle Foenander of Gateway College (Colombo) won Best Shooter while Aneesha Perera was adjudged as Netball Queen.
