 The Primary section of Ilma International Girls’ School celebrated its Annual Awards Day on the 18th of January 2018 at the Bishops College Auditorium in Colombo 3. The Honorable Chief Guest – Doctor Ali Uthman Ali Akram, Chairman of Ilma Educational Foundation – Mr. Ishrat Rauff, Past and present members of the Board of Directors, Administration and Finance Manager – Mr. Saabir Sawad, Principal – Mrs. Fareeda Wahab, Vice Principal – Mrs. Sharmaleen Girsy Headmistress of the Primary Section – Ms. Amina Zuhair, Deputy Headmistress – Ms. Asmin Ziyard, Sectional Heads, Heads of invited schools and other distinguished guests were among the audience.

The Principal of the Ilma International Girls’ School who warmly welcomed the guests stressed on the importance of the current year in the history of the alma matar, as it commemorated the completion of thirty years which is known as the ‘Pearl Anniversary.’ Madam Wahab added, “The theme for the day was Pearls. Pearls symbolize hidden beauty, deep inside the shell of an oyster. The pearl reminds us the beauty of our students who possess something that we have all lost – the quality of innocence.”

The annual report for the year was read out by the Headmistress of the Primary Section Ms. Amina Zuhair. The report included the summary of the whole year and the charity projects done within the year. The headmistress proudly mentioned and felicitated the staff who had completed thirty and ten years respectively, She mentioned “A strong structure will always have a solid foundation and as such the school is proud to have Ms. Naleema Saboor completing 30 years of dedicated service.”

The chairman of the Ilma Educational Foundation, Mr. Ishrat Rauf, then addressed the gathering. “There is little or no doubt that even the brightest students will falter without the right guidance.” He encouraged everyone on behalf of the Board to join them in ensuring that “Ilma not just maintains its standards but also to raise it to unprecedented levels.”

The chief guest for the day, Doctor Ali Uthman Ali Akram, who currently serves as the Registrar in Acute and Internal Medicine at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka gave an inspiring speech on the importance of education and how each student should strive hard to achieve their goals.

Every student is gifted in numerous ways. But only a few are able to capture the essence of it and shine brighter than the others in distinguished ways. Ilma International Girls’ School took pleasure in felicitating Saudha Shaheen with the distinguished title of “Star of the Year 2016/17”.

Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by the outgoing Head Girl Maryam Imran.
